TOBIAH SEVENTH DAY ADVENTIST CHURCH OUR HISTORY AND OUR GOALS

ESTABLISHED IN 1978 BY THE ALLEGHENY WEST CONFERENCE OF SEVENTH DAY ADVENTISTS.

The year was 1977 a young Black Man by the name of Henry Hope, at that time a lay preacher for the Allegheny West Conference of Seventh Day Adventist, was preaching at a small hill side chapel in Zanesville, Ohio.  On hearing of his efforts a few members of the Newark church began to visit on Sabbaths.  Inspired by Pastor Hope's preaching they offered to help him set up a tent for the purpose of holding evangelistic meetings in Newark.  At that time for many, the walls of segregation had not yet been fully breached.  After the evangelistic effort there was a core group of about 50 ready to form a church.

On Sabbath November 25, 1978 the Tobiah Seventh Day Adventist Church was officially dedicated to the Lord and accepted into the membership of the Allegheny West Conference of Seventh Day Adventist.  The name chosen by which the church would be known was Tobiah – meaning God is Good.

The Tobiah Seventh Day Adventist church is dedicated to bringing the truth of the Love of God to Newark, Ohio.  The twin pillars of John 17:3   “This is Life Eternal, that they might know thee the Only true God and Jesus Christ whom thou has sent” and John 3:16 “God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that who soever believeth in Him should not perish but have eternal life”, are the foundation of the church's ministry.

Conservative in worship and beliefs and clinging to the principles of faith as found in the Bible, we welcome all to come and celebrate the Sabbath with us.
